Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) has swept Maharashtra Municipalities and Zilla Parishad elections. It captured eight out of ten Municipalities in the state. After breaking the alliance with BJP, the Shiv Sena has managed to win in Mumbai and Thane only.
These elections have shown the clear mandate for Modi’s efforts towards demonetisation, said BJP insiders. With this victory chief minister Devendra Fadnavis image has also been boosted.
The major losers of this election are the Congress, MNS and NCP. Shiv Sena president However, Udhhav Thackeray was happy with party’s performance. Sena accused of BJP for deleting names in the voter list which they believed caused them narrow defeat in many wards of Mumbai.
