The fourth phase of Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh is underway today. 680 candidates are in the fray for 53 constituencies spread over 12 districts. It also includes most backward Bundelkhand region and Rae Bareli of Gandhi-Nehru family strong bastion.
Unemployment, Poverty, Scarcity of water, lack of education avenues and inadequate infrastructure are some of the key issues parties raised during their campaigning. SP-Congress alliance, BJP, and BSP are main contenders in this region. In last assembly elections, SP had won highest seats of 24 followed by BSP 15, Congress six, BJP five and others won three seats.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi has missed political campaign this time but wrote an open letter of appeal to the voters of Rae Bareli and Amethi to extended their support to Congress candidates.
BSP rely on this phase since Yadav population is low in this region and BSP hopes to win many seats. The saffron party is also expecting favourable results in Bundelkhand as BJP’s Uma Bharati hails from this region.
